When hearing the words fair trade most people think of things like coffee, tea, chocolate and bananas...
Nobuntu are aiming to spread the word that there is a vast amount of beautiful & original non-food fair trade products available. They have been designed and produced under fair trade standards in developing countries.
The concept of Ubuntu, which derives from the word Nobuntu is about a strong sense of community where people co-exist in a mutually supportive lifestyle. For us at Nobuntu this fits perfectly with the concept of fair trade. Fair trade is about being positively empowering others and giving a fair price for quality work.
Nobuntu is a small business, run by myself and my husband together with our trading partners in South Africa. We subscribe to the fair trade standards set out by the International Fair Trade Association.
Apart from importing a small range of South African handicrafts from non government organisations we also buy from other fair trade importers and wholesalers that are members of the British Association of Fair Trade shops and/or members of the International Fair Trade Association.
